Akawah was a freelance project where I had the opportunity to create a culturally rich and visually compelling logo for a client in the specialty coffee industry. This project highlights my ability to blend local heritage with innovative branding
AKAWAH
Project Scope
My Role
Creating a brand around the name "Akawah," the local name for “rose collar” worn over the head of coffee farmers, infuses the essence of local culture and the specialty coffee experience into the brand identity. The logo represents this inherited culture, from our local farmers and their coffee to our innovative holder for specialty coffee bags. This request was to have a logo that embodies this rich cultural heritage.
As a freelance designer, I helped the client develop a logo that captures the essence of Akawah. The process involved understanding the cultural significance of the rose collar and translating that into a visual identity that resonates with both the local heritage and the specialty coffee market
Design Process
I started this project by exploring the cultural significance of the rose collar. Understanding its importance was vital in creating a visual identity that connects with both tradition and modernity.
I began by creating multiple sketches to explore different concepts and designs for the logo. This stage involved a lot of doodling and experimenting with various shapes, forms, and symbols that could represent the essence of Akawah.
These were my first rough sketches, let's call them my "masterpieces in the making" before I moved on to the digital versions
Digital Version
These were my early drafts I created and shared with the client after the initial sketches.
Final Logo
I aimed to incorporate the coffee plant's essence by integrating its fruit and plant elements into the logo.
Although the detailed rose collar wasn't my creation, the client requested that I add color to the logo and to chose a color for the packaging. I used colors inspired by their reference to create a design that closely matched their vision.
